What is an internal injury
An internal injury is where the performer is solely responsible, they can be caused by continuous stress on the body
Examples of an internal injury
Tennis elbow
Golfers elbow
Shin splints
What is an external injury
External injuries are caused by factors other than the performer, such as other performers or equipment
What can cause external injuries
Contact with something Impact injuries Foul play Bad tackles Poor technique Cheating
What can you do to prevent injuries
Perform a warm up Perform a cool down Do a risk assessment Follow rules Follow the correct techniques Use appropriate equipment Wear appropriate clothing
What does a warm up do and what do you do in a warm up
warms up the body so your blood pumps round your body so oxygen can get into your blood
Mobilising
Drills
Static stretches
Dynamic stretches
What does performing a cool down do and how can you do this
It removes lactic acid from your muscles so you don’t get stiff and it prevents soreness
Stretch
What is a risk assessment and who preforms it
A risk assessment is when you remove hazards and gather the correct equipment
A teacher coach or trainer checks it is safe
How will following the correct technique help prevent injuries
Less chance of damaging your own joints/muscles/ body and others
