- Acute

What is an acute injury?
A
- An injury that is caused suddenly.
- Pain is felt immediately.
- Pain is severe.
e.g. Dislocation, concussion, sprain, strain, fractures (hairline and spiral etc).

What is a chronic injury?
A
- An injury that develops overtime.
- Also referred to as a overuse injury.
- Develop slowly.
- Often ignored by performers which makes the condition worse.
e.g. tennis elbow, Achilles tendonitis, stress fracture.

Symptoms of an acute injury….
A
- Sudden severe pain.
- Swelling.
- Unable to pair weight.
- Restricted movement.
- Weakness.
- Protruding bone/ joint visibly out of place.

Symptoms of a chronic injury….
A
- Swelling.
- Pain when exercising.
- Dull ache when resting.

Define stress fracture
A
- The muscle becomes fatigued + the bone takes the bearing and breaks.

Define tennis elbow
A
- Muscle becomes inflamed causing pain.
- Repeated movement.

Define Achilles tendonitis
A
- Tendon becomes inflamed causing pain.

- Bone comes out of the joint.

- Tear in the ligament.
