What is a project charter?
Authorises the existence of a project and gives the PM authorisation to assign project resources.
Who is responsible for issuing/approving the project charter?
Projects are authorized by someone external to the project such as a project sponsor, project management office (PMO), or portfolio steering committee.
What is the purpose of the business case?
A document that includes the business need and the cost-benefit analysis created by the sponsor. Pay back analysis is also included as part of the business case
What happens once the business case is approved?
The develop project charter process
Why would a Project Manager use facilitation as a technique?
The project manager must use facilitation skills to arrive at a consensus toward project objectives
What is the main output of the identify stakeholder process?
Stakeholder register which includes stakeholder identification info, assessment info and stakeholder classification
When should the identify stakeholders process be ran?
Initially at the initiation phase and then it is repeated as necessary throughout the project. Should be performed at the start of a phase or when a significant change occurs.
What are the inputs to the identify stakeholder process?
The project charter, business documents and procurement documents i.e. agreements provide the key impacted parties.
EEF provides criteria like government industry standards as a stakeholder can be a group like a government agency not necessarily an individual.
OPA provides historical records and lessons learned.
What are the tools and techniques for the identify stakeholder process?
The key steps are identify-analyse-assess this makes up the stakeholder analysis.
Expert judgement is used and Meetings are held to help identify who the key stakeholders are
Data representation techniques are used to categorise stakeholders such as power/interest grid, power/influence grid and impact/influence grid and the stakeholder cube.
You can also use data representation techniques to assess the class of the stakeholder based on their power by using techniques such as the salience model and directions of influence i.e. upward/downward/outward/sideward
What is the salience model used for?
Salience model is a method for classifying stakeholders and to decide who do matter! The stakeholder salience is decided by the assessment of their power, urgency and legitimacy.
