What is the purpose of the project management plan?
Defines how the project is executed, monitored and controlled and validated.
What 3 main areas are included in the Project Management Plan?
Overall planning approach which includes what lifecycle to use, what level of configuration management will be needed, tailoring and approach for subsidiary plans.
Subsidiary plans - ie scope management plan/schedule management plan etc
Baselines - Once the subsidiary plans have been agreed they will need to be baselined. Once baselined it may only be changed through the integrated change control process
What knowledge area is the develop project management plan?
Integration Management
What are the inputs for developing project management plan?
Project charter as this is used as a starting point for initial project planning at a minimum it will include high level info about the project.
Outputs from planning processes - ie scope management plan/schedule management plan etc
OPA - organisational policies, templates, change control procedures, monitoring and reporting methods, info from similar projects, lessons learned
EEF - Government or industry standards, legal requirements or constraints, organisational governance framework
What tools and techniques are used for developing the project management plan?
Expert judgement and Meetings are used to help with the overall planning approach i.e. identify what tailoring is required, identify what processes are needed, determine the tools and techniques needed to be used to accomplish the processes, determining resources and skills levels to perform project work
Interpersonal and team skills; meeting mgmt/conflict mgmt and facilitation are used to arrive at a consensus to meet project objectives
Data gathering is used to gather information about the project approach - brainstorming/checklists/focus groups/interviews
