What to do En route to the scene?

A

Obtain

  • a description of the subject
  • a description of the subjects vehicle (if any)
  • the suspects direction of travel
  • a description of any weapon
  • Watch for vehicles that may have come from scene.
  • Discuss areas of responsibility at the scene. Who will deal with what.
  • plan vehicle approach to ensure safety.
  • safe forward point. Where you can safely park and where others can park.
  • consider your options

What must you do on arrival?

A
  • advise Comms of your arrival and obtain acknowledgement
  • park in safe, clear area
  • discuss approach to the house, building or scene
  • always take a portable radio and touch at night
  • STOP! Take note of what’s happening, where and who is involved. (Brief situation report to Comms)
  • if needed, advice Comms of safe arrival point
  • ask anybody near what’s happening, where and who is involved
  • ask for your informant

When Obtaining information you must?

A

Locate the informant and

  • obtain brief facts
  • ask the informant/witness to identify the victim and or the offender.
  • give the offender whereabouts
  • location of the scene and victim
  • keep the informant occupied and in one place
