3) divide by expected value

4) add values from categories of all results for a final critical value

5) degree of freedom is (sets of data - 1)

if critical value below critical of 0.05 probability of chance for the degree of freedom = null hypothesis accepted

If above rejected as probability is too low to be significant for chance
