Inheritance Flashcards
What is mono hybrid inheritance
Inheritance of a single gene
What is Mendels first law of inheritance
Organisms characteristics are determined by paired factors
What is mendels 2nd law of inheritance
Each member of a pair of alleles may combine randomly with either of another pair on a different chromosome
When does mendels law not apply
If genes are unlinked
What is dihybrid inheritance
Simultaneous inheritance of 2 unlinked genes
What is linkage
Genes that are on the same chromosome so don’t segregate during meiosis
What is sex linkage
Most lengths of X and Y chromosomes are not homologous
In those regions females have 2 copies of the gene and males have 1
In heterozygous females the dominant allele is expressed in males whichever allele is carried gets expressed as there is no allele to be dominant over it
What is haemophilia
Sex linked condition carried on the X chromosome by females
What is duchenne muscular dystrophy
X linked reccesive condition
Can males be a Carrie for haemophilia
No as they only have one X chromosome
