Inheritance Flashcards
Genotype
Is an organisms full genetic makeup, all different alleles has for genes
Phenotype
Is an organisms observable characteristics, the expression is determined by the environmental interactions of that organism
Homozygous
A pair of homologous chromosomes which carry same allele for a single gene
Hetrozygous
A pair of homologous chromosomes which carry different alleles for a single gene
Recessive allele
An allele which will not be expressed if a dominant allele is present
Dominant allele
An allele which is always expressed as a phenotype when present
Monohybrid
Genetic inheritance cross of characteristics determined by one gene
Dihybrid
Genetic Inheritance cross of characteristics determined by multiple genes
What are the five types of inheritance
Co dominant, sex linkage, multiple alleles, autosomal linkage, epistatis
Codominant
Is where 2 alleles are equally as dominant, so are both expressed as phenotype
Multiple Alleles
Where more than 2 alleles for a single gene
Sex Linkage
Locus is on X chromosome only
Epistatis
When one gene modifies, masks the expression of another gene at a different locus
Autosomal Linkage
Genes located on the same chromosome
