Inflammation; Innate Immunity - Second Line Defenses Flashcards
What are the pro inflammatory mediators released by damage cells and macrophages
Histamine. Prostaglandins. Leukotrienes
Describe Vasodilation
Dilating the blood vessels (Redness, heat)
Describe increase vascular permeability
Becomes leaky and stuff leaks out into surrounding tissues (swelling, pain)
Describe phagocyte diapedesis
Phagocytose squeeze out of your blood vessels : neutrophils –> monocytes to macrophages
Describe phagocyte and microbial death
Pus (dead cells and abscess)
What are the outcomes of inflammation
Destroys agent, localizes response, restores function
Will you be OK if you had a systemwide inflammation
No it can kill you
Would these same responses be beneficial if they were chronic
No phagocytosis can be destructive, they can spray the area with enzymes to Invader, it would promote damage and inflammation
Describe inflammation
Heat, swelling, pain, redness and is Triggered by microbes, complement and tissue damage
