What are some of the causes of female infertility besides lack of ovulation?

A

Damage and scarring of uterine tubes due to pelvic surgery or pelvic inflammatory disease (usually the result of an STI), fibroids, endometriosis, thickening kf cervical mucous, drugs (NSAID, chemotherapy, neuroleptics, spironolactone, marijauna, cocaine)

Why are progesterone levels checked if a women presents with infertility and when should progesterone be checked?

A

To investigate whether or not ovulation is occuring. Progesterone >32nmol/l if ovulation is occuring. This should be checked seven days before nect period is due (day 21 of cycle) as this is when ovulation should occur

What are the possible causes of male infertility?

A

injury or heating of testes due to infection, cancer, surgery, varicoceles, trauma to the testes cryptorchidism or congenital defects will cause a decrease in sperm count and an abnormal sperm morphology
male infertility can also be the result of ejaculation disorders, hypogonadism, genetic disorders or drug use
