Q

How do viruses replicate?

A

By using the cellular synthetic machinery to direct the synthesis of specialised virions that transfer the viral genome to other cells.

Q

What are viroids and virusoids?

A

the smallest known autonomously self-replicating molecules
Viroids - Plant pathogens composed of single-stranded covalently circular RNA molecules (240-375 residues)
Virusoids - satellite RNAs of similar size which are encapsulated by helper viruses

Q

What are prion diseases?

A

Diseases caused by protein which causes a non-functioning change in shape of a protein which then produces a catalytic process by which more of the protein is made
