UTI in children Mx

A

<3 months old
- Send MCS
- Paeds admission

3 month - 3 years
- Dipstick test
- POS Leuc/ Nit = treat + MCS

> 3yo
- Dipstick test
- POS Nit = treat
- NEG Nit + POS Leuc = await MCS before treat
- NEG Nit + Leuc = consider alternative

If recurrent
1st USS KUB
2nd MCUG/ DMSA - via paeds

If no rash, but suspicious - ELISA test + Treat

If <18, suspicious or uncertain diagnosis - urgent referral

Antibiotics
1st - PO Doxy 200mg OD 21/7
2nd PO Amox 1gram TDS 21/7

Glandular fever Mx

A

Paracetamol, ibuprofen
* Explain symptoms will last 2–4 weeks. Tiredness common – last symptom to go.
* School/work exclusion unnecessary but avoid kissing or saliva contact.
* Return to normal activities but tailor these to tiredness.
* Avoid contact/collision sports or heavy lifting for first month.
