-emaciation, sparse hair, distended belly with outstanding blue veins, loss of appetite, listlessness
causes
- irregular intake of food
- improper nursing
- parasitosis
- chronic illness
symptoms
shorter/less hair, ab distension, blue veins, fatigue, listlessness, edema, diarrhea
etiology
1) malnutrition
2) irregular sleep
3) constitution
diagnosis
1) emaciation- small, thin, fragile skin, mm atrpohy, freq sick, diarrhea, pale complexion
2) subcutaneous fat: (use skin folding)
- degree 1: 0.8-0.4 cm
- degree 2:
stages
1) early (Gan Qi)- not obvious weight loss, sallow complexion, sparse hair, poor appetite, easily angered, loose stool/constipation, T-thin white coat, P-slippery, thin
2) mid (Gan Ji)- more obvious weight loss, ab distension with protruding umbilicus, sallow complexion, sparse hair, listlessness, poor appetite, eat a lot, poor sleep, abnormal behaviour, soft pulse
3) Late (Gan gan)- loss mm, listlessness, crying with weak voice, loose stool/constipation, belly depressed (severe), T-pale/little coat
DIFF (shen/appetite)
SHEN- if shen is fine then SP/ST not damaged
-LIV SHI= easily angered/crying
-Jing/Qi xu= listlessness, SOB, unwillingness to speak
APPETITE:
-SP Qi xu= poor
-SP Qi depletion= none
POT
strengthen SP/ST, disperse accumulation
