Loose, watery, frequent stools
Abdominal pain and distension
Excessive fluctuance
Audible bowel sounds

All the same as lactose intolerance
PLUS
Mucousy, bloody or offensive stools
Constipation
Vomiting
Gastro-oesophageal reflux

If a person has CMPA, can they use lactose free milks?
No, lactose free doesn’t mean there aren’t any cow’s milk proteins
What are the first line feed choices for babies with CMPA?
If breastfeeding, mum goes milk free
Extensively hydrolysed protein feeds
->90% respond, 10% react. Second line is amino acid based feeds.
What are some of the risks of using soya infant formula?
Higher risk of dental caries
How long after being on a milk-free diet do you reintroduce children back to milk and monitor for a reaction?
6 months after being milk free
->milk ladder starts with foods like biscuits, muffins, and goes towards foods like cheeses and yogurts.
If a child manages a few steps of the ladder without symptoms, these foods can be continued until trying to continue up the ladder a few months later.
At how old is complimentary feeding done alongside milk in infants?
