Index of Multiple Deprivation - a quantitive measure of deprivation that involves income, employment, education, health, crime barriers to housing and services and living environment
What is the quality of life?
The general well-being including their rights
What is the standard of living?
Poverty, lack of economic opputunities and lack of access to resources
Why is there inequality?
- Old and poor housing - results in people living in cold and damp conditions
- Decline of the secondary industry - results in higher unemployment
- Lack of qualifications
- Pressure on services (health)

OUTER CITY
Richmond is a wealthy part in London where:
* People have good qualifications that allow them to get jobs - low unemployment
* High rents and property prices
* Long life expectancy
* Many parks
* Older population
* Low migration
* Less pressure on schools but high pressure on care homes
* High incomes

INNER CITY
- High migration
- Low life expectancy
- Young population
- High unemployment
What does (economic) decline mean?
Refers to income and growth in area stopping or reversing
What does depopulation mean?
decline in total pop.
What does dereliction mean?
cities are abandones and buildings become run down
What does decentralisation mean?
shift of shopping activity and employment away from the CBD
