- Empty bladder
- instil medication

- Keep perinal area dry

Balloon size in IDC

A
  • Use smallest balloon size possible as keeps residual urine to minimum
    • The balloon should be fully inflated to recommended size
    • Choose smaller size = less residual urine, less likely of bladder spasm and damage to bladder neck from the weight of balloon
    • Underinflated balloons may occlude drainage holes, distort catheter tip and irritate bladder wall
      Use sterile water- sodium chloride can crystalise
