What is Screening?
The process of examining a large proportion of the population to determine the outcome.
What is Incidence?
The occurrence - number of people showing signs of e.g. caries
What are Surveys?
To take a general look at something / scanning the condition of something.
What is Prevalence?
Where it is, how many people, how often etc.
What is Epidemiology?
The Study of the indigence and distribution in a large population.
Given an example of an epidemiology study.
Yearly, national study of 5 year old dental examination to determine dfmt / DFMT
What percentage of school children are reported to have caries?
60-90%
When completing a type of plaque indices, what tooth number system is used?
FDI - World Dental Federation Notation.
Name the three types of plaque indices?
BPE, Teeth Cleanliness index & Silness and Loe Plaque Index
What is BPE and how is it measured?
Basic Periodontal Exam - 6 quadrants, period probe, extends 3.5mm-5.5mm, placed in gingival crevice.
What teeth are used in the teeth cleanliness index?
- Buccal surfaces
- 46 - Lingual surfaces
- Labial surface
What is 10/10 score for teeth cleanliness index?
Tooth Surface Clean
What is 8/10 score for teeth cleanliness index?
Small deposits at gingival margin
What is 6/10 score for teeth cleanliness index?
Plaque 1mm wide at margin
What is 4/10 score for teeth cleanliness index?
up to 1/3 tooth covered with plaque
