indices and scoring methods Flashcards
1
Q
what are the ramjford teeth and what do we use when one is missing
A
- 1-6, 2-1, 2-4, 3-6, 4-1, 4-4
- use the tooth anterior to it if one is missing
2
Q
what is the scoring for a plaque index
A
- 0: no plaque
- 1: plaque is present on some but not all of the ip, facial and lingual surfaces
- 2: plaque is present on all of the ip, facial and lingual surfaces, but covers less than half of these surfaces
- 3: plaque extends over all ip, facial and lingual surfaces and covers more than half of these surfaces
3
Q
what is the purpose of bleeding indices
A
- to evaluate areas of early disease for educational purposes because bleeding will be present before any visible gingival inflammation
4
Q
tools and steps for flossing
A
- need floss
- pass floss IP on each tooth and curve it before the margin. move the floss up and down for one stroke careful not to lacerate. be controlled by using a finger rest. use a new length of clean floss for each new area. look for blood in the area and on the floss. allow 30 seconds before reinspection is area does not show blood immediately
5
Q
what is the purpose of the periodontal scoring record
A
- to assess the periodontal health of patients. designed to indicate periodontal status in a rapid and effective manner and to motivate the patient to seek necessary and complete periodontal assessment and treatment. used as a screening procedure to determine the need for comprehensive periodontal evaluation
- 0-4 scoring
6
Q
score description for periodontal scoring record (PSR)
A
- 0 = only the ball is lost in the deepest probing depth in the sextant. no calculus, no defective margins, no bleeding
1 = coloured area of probe is completely visible in the deepest probing depth of the sextant. smooth surfaces, no calculus, no defective margins, bleeding upon probing
2 = coloured area of probe is completely visible in the deepest probing depth of the sextant. rough surfaces felt may be supra gingival and/or subgingival calculus. defective margins of restorations
3 = coloured area of probe is only partly visible in the deepest probing depth in the sextant. requirements for scores 1 and 2 may be present
4 = coloured area of probe completely disappears. probing depth greater than 5.5 mm. must reprobe sextant with williams probe
7
Q
- in PSR
A
- = clinical abnormality. any notable feature such as furcation involvement, mobility, mucogingival problem and/or marked recession
8
Q
decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT)
A
- based on 28 permanent teeth
- does not include:
- 8s
- unerupted teeth
- congenitally missing or supernumerary teeth
- teeth removed for reasons other than caries
- teeth restored for reasons other than caries
- retained primary teeth with permanent tooth erupted
9
Q
what is the purpose of DMFT
A
- to determine the total dental caries experience, past and present by recording either the number of affected teeth of surfaces
10
Q
DMFS
A
- based on 28 teeth with 128 surfaces
- ‘s’ = surfaces, how many caries and restorations are present on a tooth surface (can be more than one)
11
Q
d =
m =
f =
A
- ‘d’ = decayed recordings, when caries or a restoration with recurrent caries is present or when a crown is broken due to caries (required)
- ‘m’ = missing recordings, when is is extracted due to caries, or when the carie is not restorable and an extraction is needed
- ‘f’ = filled recordings, permanent and temporary restorations, a tooth with a defective restoration but no caries evident
12
Q
overall scoring for DMFT
A
- d + m + f = dmf
