What does the term unconscious bias mean?
Refers to the underlying attitudes and stereotypes that people unconsciously attribute to another person or group that affects how they understand and engage with a person or group.
What is Equality Act 2010?
The Equality Act is a law which protects you from discrimination and provides protection from a wide range of matters

Do you need an Access statement?
There is a need for an access statement/audit for all properties – setting out details of access arrangements and alternative arrangements if access cannot be reasonably provided for a disabled person.
What is Part M of the building Regulations?
Part M provides information about the ease of access to, and use of, buildings.
This includes:
Facilities for disabled visitors or occupants and the ability to move through a buildings easily including to toilets and bathrooms.
When faced with an obstacle to access for disabled person – the equality act 2010 requires the service provider to?
- Remove or alter the feature
- Provide reasonable means of avoiding the obstacle or reasonable alternative access to the service.
What will the test of reasonableness include?
1) Effectiveness of the adjustment for the disabled person.
2) Practicality of the adjustment
3) Final Cost and likely disruption.
4) Use of other resources available to the occupier.
How is the RICS trying to promote a more diverse, equitable and inclusive sector?
RICS and other environment bodies have signed a memorandum of Understanding Action Plan.
What is an inclusive environment?
An inclusive environment is one which is designed and managed to allow people with a diverse range of needs and abilities to access and use it.
What documentation has RICS created to promote equality?
In 2015 RICS launched the Inclusive Employer Quality Mark (IEQM) as a response to the sector being behind other professions in moving towards a more diverse and inclusive environment.
