What is an inclusive environment?
One that includes everyone regardless of characteristics
What is Equality Act 2010?
A law that makes it illegal to discriminate

Are there any Building Regulations associated with inclusive environments?
M - ensures that buildings are easily accessible for disabled users. This includes getting into the property, and moving around whilst inside the property
Guidance is given on ramps and steps, and dimensions for door width etc.
Is there a British Standard relating to inclusive design?
Yes – BS 8300-2:2018 is the British Standard for inclusive design. Part 1 covers public spaces, and Part 2 covers internal environments to ensure accessibility for all users. It goes beyond the minimum standards of Approved Document Part M and provides best practice guidance.”

What are some benefits of providing an inclusive environment?
Means that everyone can use it and thereby drives up revenue.
How would you assess the suitability of a client’s building when considering user needs not specifically covered under Building Regulations Part M?
An Access Audit should be carried out to understand the client’s obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and forms the basis of a plan of action.
What is an access audit?
An assessment of a building / environment against best-practice standards to benchmark disabled access.
What are reasonable adjustments?
Reasonable adjustments are changes that employers are required to make to avoid discrimination against disabled people. Under the 2010 Act, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments to allow disabled users equal access to opportunities, services and the built environment.
Give the tests for ‘reasonableness’?
