Define Inclusive Environments as stated by RICS?
An inclusive environment recognises and accommodates differences in the way people use the built and natural environment. It facilitates dignified, equal, and intuitive use by everyone. It does not discriminate.

What have you done to encourage inclusive environments?
When reviewing opportunities, I will review the planning portal in order to ensure the developer has obligations to adhere to the latest building regs and enhance the local community. Ensuring they promote health and well being and create a high standard of amenity.
How would you ensure inclusive environments if setting up a practice?
- Plan a clear map of individual development
- Share goals amongst the team.
- Create a team culture
- Develop internal diversity and inclusion business policies.
- Ensure I stick to these policies.
- Delegate / effective management.
- Lead by example
- Team bonding activities
- Provide realistic feedback.
What is unconscious bias?
- This is something that can influence decisions if the unconscious bias relates to specific characterisitcs.
How do you overcome unconscious bias?
- Don’t rush decisions
- Justify decisions using evidence
- Try to work with a wider range of people in order to get to know them
What are RICS doing to encourage/improve inclusivity?
- Introduced the Inclusive equality employer mark.
