What are building regulations part m?
Access to and use of building.
It addresses the accessibility for all.
What is an inclusive environment?
One which is designed and managed to allow people with a diverse range of needs and abilities to access it.
What do you need to consider when looking at a building in relation to inclusive environments?
Ensure it comply’s with approved document m of building regulations
Address the likely users of the building
Endure it meets their needs and abilities.
What is the RICS diversity and inclusion strategy and the building inclusivity report?
The D&I strategy has been put in place to address the diversity of the industry and sets out ways in which we can be more diverse.
The building inclusivity report is the first of its kind and sets out the current statistics with regard to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Both documents make reference to most of the protects characteristics from the equality act 2010.
What does the equality act say about D&I!
The equality act gives a duty to take into account the need to:
Eliminate discrimination
Harassment and;
Victimisation
If your office or work place was not an inclusive environment what would you do about meeting a client in a wheel chair?
I would ask to meet them somewhere they felt comparable whether that be a coffee shop or their own offices.
What is an unconscious bias?
An unconscious bias relates to the associations we hold which are deeply engrained.
