Incapacitation OM B3.6/ OM A4.2 Flashcards
Incapacitation OM B 3.6
All crew members should suspect SUBTLE INCAPACITATION if there is no response to:
- Two verbal communications
* Any verbal communication associated with a significant deviation from a SOP or a standard flight profile.
Incapacitation OM B 3.6
What is Incapacitation?
Incapacitation is the inability to function effectively as a crew member.
It does not necessarily involve loss of consciousness
Incapacitation OM B 3.6
If a crew member becomes unconscious AND exhibits little OR no vital signs of life then the airport of intended landing must be informed using the phrase…
- ….Seriously ill- a life threatening emergency / condition
Incapacitation OM B 3.6
Depending on severity of the crew incapacitation the Commander may consider:
… consider:
1- Declaring a MAYDAY emergency;
2- Immediate landing.
Note: Depending on severity of the accident/injury the Commander may wish to complete an ASR.
Pilot Incapacitation OM B 3.6.1
If a pilot becomes incapacitated for NO OBVIOUS REASON what should the flight crew do without delay?
Don oxygen masks without delay.
Warning: Control of the aircraft is the primary requirement.
Pilot Incapacitation OM B 3.6.1
If incapacitation occurs AFTER TOD operating to DEST where WX is below CAT1 limits should you divert to an aerodrome with limits above CAT1?
No! No! No! DO NOT JUST DIVERT.
It is SAFER to CONTINUE to DEST where WX are below CAT1 limits if incapacitation occurred AFTER TOD. (If a plan to land at an aerodrome has been formulated stick to it in this event).
Note: Prior to TOD Commander has responsibility and should decide if to land immediately or continue to destination.
Pilot Incapacitation OM B 3.6.1
What must be done if due to the incapacitation of a flight crew member the crew complement is reduced below minimum (single pilot ops)?
If single pilot ops declaring a PAN is must!
Pilot Incapacitation Flight Crew Procedures OM B 3.6.2
Immediately upon recognising pilot incapacitation the fit pilot must:
1- Establish control of the aircraft! (Aviate);
2- Ensure safe flight path (Navigate);
3- Complete QRH (none for B777)
4- Make the alert call “WILL THE SENIOR CABIN CREW MEMBER REPORT TO THE FLIGHT DECK IMMEDIATELY”
5- Brief SCCM (QNITS)
Pilot Incapacitation Flight Crew Actions B777/787 FCTM
Immediately upon recognising pilot incapacitation the fit pilot must:
1- Take control and check position of essential controls and switches;
2- After ensuring AC is under control (Aviate) engage AP to reduce workload (Navigate);
3- Declare an emergency (PAN at least /possibly MAYDAY);
4- Alert SCCM;
5- Use CC to secure the incapacitated pilot;
6- Prepare for landing;
7- Consider help from other pilots on board the aircraft.
