Improving: Behavioural (Biofeedback) - Budzynski Flashcards
1
Q
Aim of Budzynski
A
To see whether biofeedback is an effective method at reducing tension headaches
2
Q
Methhod of Budzynski
A
Experimental method, trained in a lab
3
Q
Participants of Budzynski
A
18 participants
-2 male
- 2 females
Replied to a local ad in Colorado `
4
Q
Design of Budzynski
A
Independent measures design, randomly allocated to 1 of three conditions
5
Q
Procedure of Budzynski
A
For 2 weeks patients kept a record of their headaches.
Groups A & B given 16 sessions over 8 weeks
Group A - Taught relaxation and that clicks of biofeedback reflect muscle techniques - Slower the click, less muscle tension Group B - Told to concentrate on the clicks - Pseudo feedback given Group c - No training, told they were to begin training in two maths
6
Q
Results of Budzynski
A
Muscle tension between Group A and C was significantly different by the end of training
- After 3 months Group A tension was a lot lower
- Group A’s reported headaches significantly dropped from baseline
- Group A decreased the most in drug usage
7
Q
Conclusions
A
- Biofeedback is an effective way to reduce tension headaches. Effective method f stress management
- Relaxation training is also affective, better when combined with biofeedack
