- Daily uplifts scale measure the extent to which certain daily events bring satisfaction to an individual

Compare Daily hassles & Uplifts scale with the Bradburn Life Events scale as predictors of psychological symptoms of stress

- Repeated measures design
- Completed both scales
- Assessed psychological symptoms of stress using HSCL and Bradburn Morale scale

Sample of Kanner
A
- 100 people who had completed health survey in 1965
- Californian, mostly white, 9th grade education and protestant
- 216 initially contacted, 109 agreed, 9 dropped out

Procedure of Kanner
A
Tests sent out by post 1 month before study. Asked to complete:
- Daily hassles rating for 9 months
- Life events after 10 months
HSCL and Bradurn Morale Scale every month for 9 months

Results of Kanner
A
- Hassles consistent month to month
- Life events positively correlated for men and hassles, negatively for uplifts
- Positive correlation for women in Life Events and Hassles & Uplifts reported

A
- Hassles are a more powerful predictor of symptoms of stress than Life Events
