Important skills Flashcards
What technique should you use when describing an experiment
CORMMSS
What does CORMMSS stand for
Change (the different conditions you will expose your organism to. Independent variables)
Organism (What is the organism, how should it stay the same) Example: Same species, same age, same gender
Repeat (Say that you will repeat your experiment) Example: Repeat the experiment with different groups
Measurement (How you will measure your dependent variables)
Measurement (How long you will take the measurements for. Time intervals)
Same (What may affect you dependant variables which you must keep the same)
Same
What technique to use when drawing graphs
SLAAPUK
What does SLAAPUK stand for
Scale (must be linear. Cannot break scale)
Lines (dot to dot for line graph, or bars must not touch in bar graph)
Axis correct way around (Independent variable on X-Axis)
Axis must be labelled
Plots being in the right place
Units in axis labels
Key
What is accuracy
Accuracy depends on the apparatus used and the skill of the scientist involved
What makes a test reliable
A test must be repeated for it to be reliable
What makes a test valid
A test is valid if only the independent variable is changed, and the other variables are controlled
