Genetic testing may be used to screen individuals for:
Susceptibility to certain diseases or conditions
Possible problems with certain prescribed drugs or treatment
Should babies be screened at birth?
It would allow doctors to:
Tailor healthcare and prevent problems
Stop genetic disorders from being passed on, eliminating them completely.
What are the different viewpoints on Genetic Testing?
Some people say that is would lead to less money and the money currently spent on the treatment could be used elsewhere.
But others say that because these disorders are natural, it would be wrong to eliminate them.
Have any issues arose about Genetic Information?
There are a lot of questions about confidentiality. Many worry that the information could be used to discriminate and people may be turned down for jobs or life insurance.
