Chromosomes Flashcards
What do Chromosomes normally come in?
Pairs
What similarities do chromosomes in a pair have?
The same sequence (i.e. the same genes in the same place)
Do all species have the same number of pairs?
No; different species have different number of pairs
How many pairs do human cells contain?
23 pairs (46 in total)
What cells contain single chromosomes?
Sex Cells
A Sperm & an Egg both carry 23 individual chromosomes and during fertilisation the fertilised egg cell then has 46 chromosomes (23 pairs) half from the mother and the other half from the father.
What is a chromosome?
