What is Huntington’s disease caused by?
A single ‘faulty’ gene on the fourth pair of chromosomes
What is Huntington’s disease?
A genetic disorder affecting the central nervous system.
What effects does Huntington’s disease have?
It damaged the brain’s nerve cells and causes gradual changes which develop into symptoms including involuntary movement, clumsiness, memory loss, mood changes and inability to concentrate
Is Huntington’s disease curable?
No, it is incurable, leading to premature death.
When do the symptoms usually develop?
In Adulthood; which means sufferers may have already passed it on to their children.
Do both parents have to be a carrier of the HD gene?
No, only one parents needs to pass on the gene for a child to inherit it.
Will HD always develop?
Yes, because HD will develop because the allele is dominant.
