Implanting false memory
-easy to do with suggestions instead of statements
- imagery can get confused with reality
Source misattribution error: individual doesn’t recall where certain memories come from (source of confusion/ unconscious transference)
Suggestibility
Quality of being inclined to accept and act on suggestions on others, using cues to distort recollection.
I.e one may fill in gaps in certain memories with false info
Post event misinformation
Refers to tendency for post event misinformation to interfere with memory of original event
— research states that relatively subtle info following event can impact how people remember dramatically
Unusualness
Unusual stimuli attract attention thus more memorable.
Weapon focus effect
If weapon is involved witness will have worse memory of perpetrators
-weapon takes attention away from person commuting crime
- emotions tend to narrow attention to the threat
Cross race bias affect
People can identify people of their own race better than another race.
