A
“Third world” countries who wanted to stay out of the cold war. First meeting at Bangdung in 1955. In 1961 there was another meeting at Belgrade. Non-aligned kept countries out of cold war and encouraged the decline of colonialism BUT they lacked clear aims and still very reliant on superpowers (1962 India wanted US help in war with China)

It encouraged the growth of the arms race and space race (Gagarin and animals) and the rearmament of Japan and Germany.

In some way Sino-soviet relations were made stronger. However, there was growing tension between Russia and China, especially over the issue of nuclear weapons.
