Divisions within the Bolsheviks
A
- 1921 workers opposition in Petrograd members of Bolsh went to Kronstadt opposed war communism and said it was too extreme and rose up
- When NEP introduced Bolsh divised into those who supported ( Right) and those who didn’t ( Left .I.e Trotsky )
- stated it was a betrayal of communism and had too much capitalist aspects like
- allowing small private trade within businesses
- creation of NETMAN
NEP appeased and those who opposed were crushed by Red army and Cheka ending divisions
- At 10th party Congress Lenin stated “an end the factionalism” insisting on one unified party where everyone supported NEP - no one could criticise

Economic recovery
A
- Before Russia economy was dislocated during the war and civil war - unstable currency , low harvest , grain requisitioning and slaughter of cattle causing famine
- NEP = increase in consumer goods
- large industries/ 2000 mill roubles in 1921 to 4600 in 1925
- industrial output doubled and salary for workers also
- peasants start to grow more as an end of requisitioning — Grain : 37.6 mill tonnes to 51.4
HOWEVER
scissor crisis - failing agricultural prices rising industrial prices so Bolsh had to control prices
