Russo Japanese war
A
- Russia’s war against japan - due to Russia provoking
- Russia defeated in Mukden and Yalin
- Russian navy destroyed in Tashima
- Russians blame the Tsar and his ability to rule
- People felt humiliated
- army in far east so any unrest would be a problem
- all deaths were blamed on tsar.

- an increase in opposition in demand for political voice
- 1905 - mainly liberals demands to be able to vote
- lack of trade unions/ rights / equality of pay and working conditions

- workers have bad living conditions
- no running water / disease / HDR / no trade unions resulting in long working hours and no insurance
- high taxation and rising inflation / crowded workplace.
caused riots and strikes.

A
- 80% of population was peasants and unhappy with empire.
- peasants had horrendous living conditions
- large mortgages not able to pay in lifetime
- common occurrence of famine due to backwards farming methods
- heavily taxed
- lead to riots 7 protests as they were fed up with tsars lavish life
- attacked land owners seizing land.

bloody sunday
A
- strike led by father Gapon with 100,000 other workers due to discontent amongst the worker’s
- peaceful strike with a petition complaining about WC and over 150,000 signed
- they were shutdown by Russian soldiers and up to 200 killed despite them not wanting to overthrow the tsar but for him to recognise their plight.
