Mining attracted Scots. Used experience mining in Ayrshire and Lanarkshire. Australia became massive exporter of coal and copper improving economy.
Whaling, Scots used experience in whaling back home. Allowed Australia to export whale oil and skin which was very rare and sought after.

Culture and Religion
Place names: Scone, Aberdeen, Perth, Dundee, Ayr
Religion: Presbyterian church spread Christianity and set up schools
Education: system based off Scot’s. Scot’s college in Sydney set up by Presbyterian ministers for children of farmers.
St. Andrews college founded by Scot’s
Caledonian Societies and St Andrew’s societies for poor relief. Took Highland games with them, burns nights etc.
Native Societies
Killed 20k Aborigines in long frontier war.
Scots brought disease with them, killing nearly half the population in the Sydney Area.
