Immunosuppresive Drugs Flashcards
How does methotrexate act as an anti cancer drug?
Inhibits DNA synthesis
By inhibiting DHFR enzyme what does methotrexate inhibit?
Conversion of uracil to thymine
How does cyclophosphamide act when treating cancer?
It damages the DNA by binding guanine bases with guanine
What is a side effect of cyclophosphamide?
One of its breakdown products acreolin damages the kidney
How does Vincristine act as an anti-cancer drug?
It inhibits mitosis by inhibiting Tubulin which makes spindles that hell the cell to divide
What kind of cancer would you want to treat with Tamoxifen as a estrogen antagonist?
Breast cancer (want less estrogen)
What kind of cancer would you treat tamoxifen as an agonist in?
Bone cancer (want increased estrogen)
What is a side effect of using Tamoxifen?
Can cause uterine cancer
Tumours larger than 2mm cannot grow without what?
Angiogenesis
Which growth factor promotes angiogenesis?
VEGF
How does Bevacizumab act as an anti-cancer drug?
Neutralises VEGF
What drug could you use to immunosuppress a patient before an organ transplant?
Ciclosporin
Ciclosporin inhibits proliferation of T/B cells by inhibiting which cytokine.? (And thus inhibits immune response)
IL-2
What do cyclophilin and cyclosporin inhibit?
Calcineurin
What does infliximab do?
It is an antibody based cytokine modulator
