Immunology and dermatology Flashcards
Treatment for a flare of hereditary angioedema
Icatibant (Bradykinin B2 receptor antagnoist) / C1 esterase inhibitor / Fresh frozen plasma
Most common cause of angio-oedema
Acute allergic
Drugs with the highest risk of drug induced lupus
Procainamide and hydralazine
Most common drugs causing anaphylaxis
- 2.
Penicillins
NSAIDS
High risk fruits in people with latex allergy
Banana
Avocado
Chestnut

1st line treatment in urticaria
2nd gen antihistamine
Examples of second-generation antihistamines include cetirizine, loratadine, fexofenadine, desloratadine and levocetirizine.
Hereditary angioedema is caused by?
A deficiency of C1 esterase inhibitor
Hereditary angioedema long term prophylaxis
Long-term prophylaxis can be achieved with androgenic steroids such as stanozolol or antifibrinolytic drugs such as tranexamic acid.
Antivirals in adults with chickenpox (indication)
Antiviral treatment is generally recommended in immunocompromised patients and those at special risk (e.g. because of severe cardiovascular or respiratory disease or chronic skin disorder); in such cases, an antiviral is given for ten days with at least seven days of parenteral treatment.
Causes of Pityriasis versicolor
Malassezia furfur and Malassezia globosa
Stevens-Johnson syndrome vs toxic epidermal necrolysis
are considered to be a single mucocutaneous disease with increasing severity. They can be differentiated by the degree of epidermal detachment seen.
SJS - 10%
TEN - 30%
Erythema ab igne
hot water bottle rash
Phemigus (vulgaris) vs Bullous pemphigoid
Pemphigus is characterized by shallow ulcers or fragile blisters that break open quickly. Pemphigoid presents with stronger or “tense” blisters that don’t open easily.
Exclusion period for impetigo
48hrs after starting abx
Erythema chronicum migrans
Target lesion of Lyme disease
