What are primary immunodeficiciency disorders PIDs
rare, intriisnic, usually inherited immune disorder resulting from geentic mutations (usually present at birth and diagnosed in childhood)
What are secondary immunodeficiency disorder? SIDS
acquired immunodeficiency as a reusult of disease or environemental factors
(HIv, steriods, mlaignnacy,lymphomas)
are PIDs more common in males ore females?
More common in males (2:1), as many disorder follow X linked pattern
1/1,2000-20,000 births
which component of the immune system are moslty affected by PIDs
Antibodies
(result in extracellular bacterial infections)
wheras if you had T cell deficineices0- more suscpetibelt on itnracellular infections-n virus
what are some common causes of SIDS (4 categories)
- Malnutrition- biggest global cause
- drug effect
- chemotherpay
- immunosupressive drugs (transplant, suppress inflaamtion/autoimmine)
- chronic infection
- HIV/AIDs most common
- Malignancy
- Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma
