Hepatitis B vaccine

A

3 dose series
-to be completed before 18months of age
-first dose prior to hospital discharge
-second and third dose 1month and 6months after initial dose

-CDC recommends that infants born to mothers who are positive for hepatitis B (HBsAG) should receive HepB vaccines 0.5ml dose of hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG) when 12 hours of birth

-HBsAG status of the mother is unknown, NP should determine mothers status, and administer HepB within 12 hours of birth to baby.
-if mother is positive for antigen, HBIG should be administered to newborn by no later than 1 week of age

-HIV, renal failure, nephrotic syndrome, and diabetes
