Immunity Flashcards
What Are FUNCTIONS OF THE
LYMPHATIC SYSTEM
Drains excess fluids away from tissues and back to circulation.
Houses the cells necessary to CLEAN the fluid before draining it into
circulation.
What transport lymph from the tissues
to the bloodstream
Vessels
___immune system cells including
phagocytic cells and, more importantly,
lymphocyte
Cells
___ a specialized form of connective
Tissue
___specialized house the
cells of the lymphatic system
Organs
Involves B lymphocytes
Also known as “humoral immunity
ANTIBODY-MEDIATED
IMMUNITY
DIRECTLY recognizes antigen
Sensitized B lymphocytes undergo clonal expansion
ANTIBODY-MEDIATED
IMMUNITY
Involves T Lymphocytes.
Cannot recognize infection directly instead it must be presented
with the antigen by an Antigen Presenting Cell or infected body
cells
CELL-MEDIATED IMMUNITY
TH cells or CD4 cells, produce cytokines that stimulate the
proliferation of all other immune cell types (including more phagocytic cells, T-cells,
and B-cells) to join the attack against the infection
Helper T cells
TC cells, CD8 cells, also called killer T cells; stimulated by
infected body cells and helper T cells to attack virus-infected body cells and cancer
cells
Cytotoxic T cells
TS cells, shut down the activity of T cells and B cells once the
infection has been conquered by the secretion of suppression factors
Suppressor T cells
responds to CD8 markers on T cells
MHC I proteins
responds to CD4 markers on T cells
MHC II proteins
What immune system has immunodeficiency
Hypersensitivity or Allergies
Autoimmune diseases
Graft rejections
IMMUNE SYSTEM
DISORDERS
Autograft = self
Isograft = identical twins
Allograft = another person
Xenograft = another
