Immune System Flashcards
What is the immune system
To defend/protect the body from invading organisms
Barriers to protect… Physical/1st
•Physical- Skin, membranes, digestive systems/acid, ear wax, tears/eyelids, cilla hairs+mucus, flushing bladder acid in PH level.
Barriers used to protect… Bio/2nd
•White blood cells/ Leukocytes
•B+T cells
•Inflammatory response
•Lymphatic system
White blood cells- where made/ in what system , what do they attack?
•Made in bone marrow
•Part of immune system
•Attack, BACTERIA, VIRUSES, PARASITES and FUNGI.
What do Lymphocytes do
•immune cell, made in the bone marrow
•found in blood lymph tissue
•lymphocytes are B cells+ T cells
How do phagocytes work
•engulf germs, non specific consume anything told to…(Phagocytosis)
•Macrophage=type of phagocyte, wound healing
B cells made where?
•Bone marrow
•B stands for bursa of fabricuis
T cells made where
•made in bone marrow mature in Thymus
What are ANTIBODIES/immunoglobulin
•Y shaped proteins that protect when unwanted substance enters your body
•creates as a response to foreign threats (antigens)
• Then marks them to be destroyed by PHAGOCYTES
Where are ANTIBODIES made/ memory cells
Antibodies made by b cells made in bone marrow
•After attack, immune system creates and remembers how to kill ANTIGEN
•If same infection comes again body will make loss of that ANTIBODIES to destroy the pathogen.
What is PHAGOCYTOSIS?
•Phagocytosis, they engulf the pathogen and break it down via enzymes
•Prevents spread and eliminates harmful substances
What is inflammatory response + what to
•Bodies response to injury such as,
Physical wounds, Foreign objects, Infective organisms, toxins, Heat and radiation
inflammatory symptoms + process
4 Stages
•Redness
•swelling
•Heat
•Pain
Process:
•attack/break down and remove invaders
•Dispose any damaged cells/ tissue
•Initiate Healing
Lymphatic system what substance + where
•Contains lymph fluid from interstitial spaces between cells
