Q

What is the trachea made up of?

A

20-25 cartilaginous rings

  • going into primary bronchioles division at the carena
  • (bifurcation part)
  • lies along T4
  • as we go down it branches into lung hylem
  • connection aspect
  • heart
  • pulmonary trunk
  • pulmonary arteries into lungs
  • deoxygenated for oxygenation
  • return via pulmonary veins
  • the hylem is the areas of what we look at
  • apex to the lungs is attached to superior aspect of thoracic cage
  • comes down to horizontal fissure (RIGHT ONLY) and oblique fissure on the right hand side separating two lobes
  • when using stethoscopes
  • on left hand side oblique fissure is on the posterior aspect
  • oblique separate superior and inferior lobes
  • and middle lobe
  • on the left hand side we only have the oblique fissure
  • right hand side more vertical naturally bc of heart situation helps with shifting
  • commonly for children it will choke it will come down the right aspect
  • bronchioles have superior, middle and inferior lobes
  • and the same on the left but only middle
  • INTERESTING POINT:

superior lobe anterior all the way down to lingula (tongue)

  • zones
  • left is life
  • right is return
  • C3C4C5 keep diaphragm alive
  • right phrenic nerve passes anterior
  • left phrenic go over to innervate diaphragm heart
  • vagus nerve longest nerve is the wonderer and continues to infiltrate oesophagus aspect as well rest and digest
