Imaging of common respiratory diseases Flashcards
1
Q
How many lobes does the right and left lung each have?
A
Right = 3 lobes (superior, inferior and middle)
Left = 2 lobes (superior and middle)
Left superior lobe extends from apex all the way down to the lingula and sits more posterior than anterior
2
Q
What is situated in the left lobe?
A
Part of the heart is situated in the aspect of the left lobe
3
Q
What is the trachea made up of?
A
20-25 cartilaginous rings
- going into primary bronchioles division at the carena
- (bifurcation part)
- lies along T4
- as we go down it branches into lung hylem
- connection aspect
- heart
- pulmonary trunk
- pulmonary arteries into lungs
- deoxygenated for oxygenation
- return via pulmonary veins
- the hylem is the areas of what we look at
- apex to the lungs is attached to superior aspect of thoracic cage
- comes down to horizontal fissure (RIGHT ONLY) and oblique fissure on the right hand side separating two lobes
- when using stethoscopes
- on left hand side oblique fissure is on the posterior aspect
- oblique separate superior and inferior lobes
- and middle lobe
- on the left hand side we only have the oblique fissure
- right hand side more vertical naturally bc of heart situation helps with shifting
- commonly for children it will choke it will come down the right aspect
- bronchioles have superior, middle and inferior lobes
- and the same on the left but only middle
- INTERESTING POINT:
superior lobe anterior all the way down to lingula (tongue)
- zones
- left is life
- right is return
- C3C4C5 keep diaphragm alive
- right phrenic nerve passes anterior
- left phrenic go over to innervate diaphragm heart
- vagus nerve longest nerve is the wonderer and continues to infiltrate oesophagus aspect as well rest and digest
