What is ILD?
A
range of diseases which affect the lung parenchyma with cellular infiltration and/or fibrosis of the alveoli, interstitium and distal airways

What happens to the lung in ILD?
A
- inflammation
- fibrosis (scarring)
- restriction (small stiff lungs)

How does ILD present?
A
progressive breathlessness
dry, non productive cough

What are the forms of ILD?
A
- idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
- sarcoidosis
- hypersensitivity pneumonitis
- pneumoconiosis
- drug related interstitial disease

Signs of ILD
A
- clubbing
- peripheral cyanosis
- fine crackles, bi nasally
- reduced expansion
- fine crackles
- lungs small, white diffuse nodular shadowing
- FEV1 and FVC are both reduced
- total lung capacity is reduced
