>50 years old smoker >15pyh SOBOE Productive cough winter infections - chronic bronchitis wheeze ankle swelling FHx alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency cor pulmonale

asthma
A
- intermittent SOB
- wheeze
- cough (mimics LRTI)
- nasal symptoms, polyps
- personal or family history of atopy: asthma, eczema, hayfield
- Hx of aspirin tolerance, beta blocker problems
- occupation/pets can worsen asthma

pneuomonia
A
- acute (2 weeks)
- coryzal/viral and fevers, sweats, poor appetite
- SOB
- cough - dry/productive
- chest pain - pleuritic
- haemoptysis, confusion, abdo pain, GI upset, myalgia, headache
