Q

Findings AAA HF

A

fMRI shows that the same brain mechanism active in substance abuse, the mesolimbic dopamine reward pathway, is also active when individuals think about a loved one

They are both linked with dopamine rich areas of the brain that are associated with reward and motivation.

Conclusion (3) AAA HF

A

Fisher et al 2016 argued that the early stage of intense, romantic love, shares many symptoms with substance abouse like alchol and addictive behaviors like gambling

This intense passionate love will soon give way to longer tem calm attachment.

The connection between relationships and drug addiction should be the basis for reasech into social support and bonding in the treatment of substance abuse ad addictive behaviors

Q

Aim of Robert Cave Studies and proving RGCT

A

Was to study informal groups and observe the natural and
spontaneous development of group organization, attitudes (prejudice), and group norms.
And it tested the RGCT as it proves the prediction that
- Groups that are positivley interdependant that work for common goals will have good intergrup reationships
- Groups that are negativley interdependant - competitionn for scarce resources, will create conflict and ethnocentric attitudes

And groups with common goals will produce a clear hierachy and roles

Q

What happened after group identities were established? RCS

A

Reaserchers introduced conflict through games. Situations like tug of war were created so that one group would benefit at the expense of the other. The groups were working in opposition and RGCT predicted, conflict was generated.

Because they were negativley interdependant, the boys became hostile and violent.

The introducting of competition affected group dynamics with
- Intergroup favouritism : negative attributions towards outgroup
- Outgroup distrumination: openly ridiculed the outgroup and even burned glags

Q

What did reaserchers do after creating conflict? RCS

A

Reverse the groups from being negatibley interdependant to positvley interdependant

created situations where boys were required to cooperate with each other for a common goal if they wanted to suceed.

One situation involed the breaking down of the truckb which could only be fixed if the group worked together .

The introduction of superordinate goals eased the tension between the two groups, provng RGTC.

Shows how racial discrimination and prejudice may arise from scarce resources
