What sources have you used to identify / qualify new supporters
Due diligence and NPC. past Present future
1) Desktop research (past, present and future).
Archives (past) annual reports (present) ESG report (future).
2) Network
Internal - insights from someone who has worked in the industry
External - insights from charity peers who might have experience with the corporate.
A mix of verified information from the corporate and first-hand experience.
How have you ensured use of these sources are compliant with GDPR
Part of prospect research includes due diligence / negative publicity checks into companies and their directors.
To ensure its compliant it’s crucial that we are doing it through a formal process e.g. due dil / NPC and storing data safely.
Crucial to make sure that what we are collecting is relevant and proportionate and isn’t stored for longer than it is needed.
How do you know your sources are reputable.
Balanced view
Due diligence - Using official sources such as companies published reports and accounts on companies house.
NPC - Acknowledging bias and verifying information from third party articles.
Network - sense check finding with people in your network who might have different insights.
Mix of how they present themselves and how they are perceived as that will impact our reputation if we chose to align with them.

Traditional to startegic
S - Many of my external contacts sit in the sustainability teams of corporate organisations.
T - as a corporate fundraiser it is my job to understand that environment so we can tap into it.
A - I have a really good relationship with an old colleague who is working in the ESG space. I often keep him updated on our work and he keeps me updated on ESG advances.
R - Through this relationship I’ve gathered so much ESG insight that has strengthened our proposition and put us ahead of other charities in this space.
