Identifying Feeds - Protein Flashcards
Characteristics of Ground Soya?
Ground Soya (Soyabean meal)
* By product of extraction of soybean oil.
* Can contain up to 48% crude protein.
* High energy content.
* Good amino acids, being high in lysine, therefore good source of feed for pigs.
Characteristics of Extruded Soya?
Extruded Soya
* High protein, high oil, CP of 34%.
* Good for animals in hard work, good for putting on condition and to give shine to animal’s coats
Characteristics of Sunflower Meal?
Sunflower Meal
* Good source of protein, by product from extraction of oil from sunflower seeds. CP = 36%+
Characteristics of Palm Kernel?
Palm Kernel
* By product of oil manufacturing, moderate protein (16% CP) but protein is poor quality, low energy feed.
Characteristics of Corn Gluten?
Corn Gluten
* Mostly used in cattle diets as a source of energy and protein.
* By product of the wet milling process
* CP = average of 23.5%
Characteristics of Whole Rapeseed?
Whole Rapeseed
* From the oilseed rape plant.
Characteristics of Rapeseed meal
Rapeseed Meal
* By product of oil manufacturing, high protein (34% CP), good source of rumen degradable protein, moderate energy, palatability issues at high inclusion rates.
