short-term abx
cephalexin, nitrofurantoin, fluoroquinolones
Pyelonephritis treatment:
inpatient: IV ampicillin + aminoglycoside
outpatient: quinolone
What is recurrent cystitis?
More than 3 episodes of cystitis per year
What is the treatment for recurrent cystitis?
Prophylactic abx (TMP-SMX, nitrofurantoin, cephalexin) single dosing at bedtime or time of intercourse
What is ddx for pyelonephritis?
appendicitis cholecystitis pancreatitis diverticulitis (GI disorders usually have normal urinalysis)
Septic shock can occur with pyelonephritis.
