What is a class effect with coverage in Cephalosporins?
Gram - coverage increases with each generation, no activity against enterococcus or MRSA
What are the 1st Gen agents and their coverage?
- Cefazolin (IV) for surgical prophylaxis and MSSA
- Cephalexin PO for strep throat MSSA
What are the 2nd Gen agents and their coverage?
- Cefotetan and cefoxitin - IV/IM and will cover B.fragilis
- Cefuroxime is IV and PO for CAP, AOM and sinusitis
which Cephalosporin does not require renal adjustments? and what is it used for?
Ceftriaxone IV/IM
–> used for CAP, SBP, pyelonephritis
–>CI in neonates
Which cephalosproin is used to treat pseudomonas?
**3rd Gen group 2 –> Ceftazidime and the combo ceftazidime with avibactam
** 4th Gen –> cefepime
what are the 3 gen agents in group 1?
Group 1 –> Cefdinir PO, CTX IV/IM and Cefotaxime
