ICNIRP Flashcards
Non-occupational exposures to RF
Radio, television, mobile-phone based stations, microwave, in-house bases for cordless phones, mobile phones
How do epidemiological studies estimate exposure?
Crude proxies:
Job title, proximity from base station, use of mobile phone
Mechanism of RF damage to cells
Heating of cells and tissues
Imbalance in amount of heat build up in the body, effectiveness of mechanisms to remove it - increase physiologic strain
Improvements in studies with RF
Meters that monitor individual exposure
Dose assessment as cumulative exposure for specific anatomical sites
Studies on other health effects other than brain and leukaemia
Studies need to include children because they might be particularly susceptible
3 things we need to know about exposures to link it to RF?
1) Dose
2) Frequency (wavelengths)
3) Time patter
