Icing & Rain Protection Flashcards
Which areas of the airplane are heated by bleed air?
The wing and horizontal stabilizer leading edges and the engine air inlet lips
AOM 2-15-05 page 1
Which areas of the airplane are heated electrically?
- windshields
- pitot tubes
- pitot-static tube
- AOA sensors
- TAT probes
- ADC static ports
- pressurization static ports
- lavatory water drain
- the water service nipples
AOM 2-15-05 page 1
Can the APU bleed air be used for anti-icing?
No. The APU bleed air is not hot enough.
AOM 2-15-10 page 2
How many seconds should the ice detection test be limited to?
15 seconds
AOM 2-15-10 page 3.
When are Pitot 1 and 2, Pitot-Static 3, AOA 1 and 2, ADS Static Ports 1, 2, 3, and 4, and Pressurization Static Ports 1 and 2 heated?
Whenever at least one engine is running (N 2 above 56.4%)
AOM 2-15-10 page 13.
When is an ice protection test required?
The test must be carried out once a day (not necessarily the first flight of the day) when icing conditions are forecast.
AOM 1-02-79 page 10.
Explain how to perform an icing test A.
Thrust Levers…83%N 2
Ice Detection Override knob…ALL Anti-Icing Buttons (engine, wing and stabilizer)…PRESSED Ice Detection Test Knob…1, THEN 2 Thrust Levers…IDLE Ice Detection Override Knob…ENG or AUTO
AOM 1-02-79 page 10.
How long should the Ice Detection Test Knob be held in the 1 and 2 positions?
At least 10 seconds in each test position, but no more than 15 seconds. AOM 1-02-79 page 10.
If the Ice Protection Test method A is unsuccessful, what should be done?
The thrust levers should be set to IDLE and a second attempt performed, following the same procedures. AOM 1-02-79 page 10.
What does the ENG position of the Ice Detection Override Knob do?
Turns on engine air inlet anti-icing for ground speeds below 25 kts. Above 25 kts, the wing and horizontal stabilizer anti-icing systems are also turned on if icing conditions are detected.
AOM 2-15-10 page 17.
What happens if ice is detection by the ice detection system 1 or 2?
The bleed air •anti-icing system activates automatically •An SPS angle of attack set value reduction •An advisory message on the EICAS
AOM 2-15-15 page 1.
What is the maximum altitude for operation with a single engine or single bleed in icing conditions?
15,000 ft.
